Wild Dog

Murphy explores her inner wolf.
Ok, not exactly a wildlife shot I know, but she does look pretty wild – apart from the collar maybe!

Simply Superb

What a bonny blue boy!

Joy

This is happiness cloaked in feathers.

Crimson Lad

A classic Aussie male in a classic Aussie tree.

Mr Superb Fairy Wren

I would be skipping too if I was this good-looking. What a handsome and dandy chap.

Mrs Fairy Wren

And a superb little wren she is.
Dear Universe,
How are you? Please send me a super zoom lens so I can get closer to the wee birds.
Thank you, Amen, Goodnight.

New Holland Honey Eater

I'm always on the hunt for these quick-footed birds. They are always on the hop, sucking down sweet nectar or crunching up little spiders. Not a bad life I guess if you like that sort of thing. This lovely chap gave me a two second window of opportunity to snap him.

Little One

A little bird with a big proud chest and a song to share.

Feathered and Fluffed

I'm not sure but I suspect she is a young Common Blackbird. Girl Blackbirds aren't black.

Youngster

This funny little bird hid behind the shrubs and spied on me for ages. Finally she was brave enough to venture out and take a wee dip. But she kept a very close eye on me.

A Little Honey(Eater)

Lovely beak work ... the perfect tool for harvesting nectar. I want one!

Eastern Spinebill

This little girl was thoroughly enjoying her time at the bird spa.

Gathering

Seeds and grasses are big on the Bronzewing menu.

Wonderful Wings

How's that wild iridescent colour? The colour shimmers and changes depending on the light. What a cool party trick.

Backyard Bronzewing

Just hanging out in the garden with my favourite dove.

Not So Common

This Common Bronzewing Dove is now a regular to our backyard. Super friendly and so stunningly beautiful. Nothing common about him! The boy birds get the golden yellow forehead.

Wild and Windswept

The largest tree-climbing mammal in the village.

Koala

Another  Australian icon. I've rarely seen them in the wild so I was just about beside myself when I came across this little chap (or chappette – I'm not sure). It was after a storm, the creature was drenched. We couldn't stop looking at each other!

Buff Silkie Hen

What a cantankerous creature she was! A neighbour's chook. She did not want to get off that nest! We got there in the end, but brickies gloves and a broom were involved. Broody, moody but beautiful! At least she was happy to sit for her portrait.

Wattle Bird in the Waratah

A Red Wattlebird tucking into a bit of nectar from the flowering waratah. I had a dream about a wattle bird once. It was sitting in a tree calling to me. When I woke up and went outside there was a wattle bird, sitting in a tree ... calling.

King of the Castle

A perfect perch – the ubiquitous Kookaburra in the ubiquitous old gum tree. How lucky am I to be able to wander down the backyard and witness this winged and wild wonder? Very.

Kookaburra Family

Just hanging out with the fam in the old apple tree. How naughty does that little one look?!

Kookaburra

Yes – an Aussie icon. The Laughing Kookaburra. Noisy buggars! But I do love them ... they always seem so cheerful. This one was having a big old yak up after a feast of fat earthworms, gleefully plucked and devoured.
