Bird on a Wire
Willie Wagtails alway seem to follow us when we're out walking. I thought this was pretty special and that each little fantailed sweetie was really friendly and liked our company. Wrong! Apparently they are after a feed of little insects that get kicked up when humans walk. Crafty birds. This one was was probably getting ready for an easy dinner when he saw me.

Go Bird Go
This Pied Currawong was on the roof sussing things out and took off like a rocket.
I was lucky to be there for the launch.

The Tui Series
These are my very special Tui snaps. For those who don't know, the Tui is an iconic and beautiful New Zealand bird. I shot these from my sister's back porch – the light was magic, the birds magic ... shooting them in action was a dream. They love the flax!

Shy One
Very cute for a rodent. Also very shy, rather beautiful and I suspect rather good eating if I was a jaguar. Lucky I was just a snap-happy human.

Ever Alert
Meerkats can see far into the distance – a handy trick for spotting hungry birds of prey. The dark ring around their eyes are like built-in sunglasses so they can look directly at the sun. Very cool accessory.
Mover and Shaker
I could be wrong but I think this might be a Little Pied Cormorant? If it is I do believe he likes to fly solo – not in V formation like other birds. This one had just taken a dip and was involved in a bit of wing flapping action.

Watching the Skies
In Africa, meerkats spend a lot of time watching the skies for big predatory birds. At Melbourne Zoo they are on helicopter watch.
Close Encounter
Such an intricate design. Someone or something somewhere must have put a bit of effort into creating these creatures.
Lap Bird
This little sweetie was almost ready hop on my lap. Extremely trusting and tame and really quite beautiful in a classic water bird sort of way.
Turtle Watch
Turtles can live a very long time and some can outrun a human. Not this one. They have excellent, full colour eyesight and this chap looks like he has me well and truly sussed ... oh dear another human with a camera ... sigh.
